Rites today for W. Pete Tunnell

   Memorial services for W. Pete Tunnell, a teacher in Dallas schools for 28 years, will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Farmers Branch.

   Tunnell, 60, died Saturday at his home in Dallas after a brief illness.

    A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Tunnell served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He received a bachelor's degree in zoology from the University of Tennessee, and a master's degree in education from North Texas State University.

    Tunnell came to Dallas in 1959.  He taught mathematics and science classes at W.T. White High School, Marsh Junior High School, Rusk Junior High School and the Health Professions Magnet High School.  He also had been a varsity tennis coach at W.T. White High School.  He retired in 1986, relatives said.

    He was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

    Tunnell is survived by his wife, Lane Tunnell; a son, T.W. Tunnell; two daughters, Gracie Tunnell and Jannae Tunnell, all of Dallas; and two brothers, William C. Tunnell, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Hal C. Tunnell of Knoxville.

    Memorials may be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
