   After graduating from the High School for Health Professions at Townview Magnet School in Oak Cliff, formerly on Ross Ave, Juan Solorio joined the Army and made it his career.  He deployed to Iraq in October 2004 with the Army's 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, from Fort Lewis, Washington.  On Friday, March 4, 2005, he was killed when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle while under attack.

He has a wife Gabby and two sons, 11 year old Julian and 8 year old Maxmilian.

SOLORIO, STAFF SGT. JUAN M. Staff Sgt. Juan Manuel Ascencion Solorio, 32, who was assigned to HHC 3/21, 1st Brigade, 25th I.D. (STRYKER BRIGADE) in Ft. Lewis, WA, died Friday March 4, 2005 when his Recon Platoon was attacked while serving our country in Mosul during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Born November 23, 1972 in Dallas, TX Juan grew up in Oak Cliff as the son of proud parents Gerald Sr. and Alicia A. Solorio. He attended N.J. Cochran Elementary, T.W. Browne, and graduated from the High School for the Health Professions in 1991. He attended Mountain View College and U.T. Arlington before enlisting in the Army without hesitation in 1993. His military career began as a graduate of the US Army Infantry School, Fort Benning Georgia. His assignments included Fort Hood Texas, Schoffield Barracks Hawaii, Ft. Bragg North Carolina, and culminating at Ft. Lewis Washington. Juan's distinguished career resulted in deployments to Japan, Thailand, Haiti, Egypt and most recently Iraq. His dedication to his country resulted in him being recognized for exceptional service. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal with Oakleaf cluster, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with Oakleaf cluster, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Multinational Force and observers Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal Expeditionary: the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart were awarded posthumously. Additional awards are pending for his service in Iraq. He has earned the Combat Infantrymans Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Jump Master Badge with cluster. Juan was a strong, noble, caring and hardworking family man with a tremendous love for his immediate and extended family. He led by example with a hard work ethic that he passed along to his family. He had an endless love for the outdoors that always included his wife and two sons. He understood the value of making an impact in the community by volunteering his time as a assistant scoutmaster. He is survived by his wife Gabby, his sons Julian and Max, parents Gerald Sr. and Alicia, brothers Gerald Jr. and Fabian, grand parents Maria Luis Garcia and Guadalupe Solorio of Mexico, his nephews and nieces Rafita, Dominici, Junior, Casey, and Liz; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; Boy Scout Troop 62 and Cub Scout Pack 461; and his Brothers in Arms of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Feliberto Ascencion Orozco and Jose Geronimo Perez Salas of Mexico. 

Vigil Services will be 6:00 pm Sunday at Jeter and Son Funeral Home, Dallas. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am Monday March 14,2005 at Santa Clara Catholic Church, Dallas. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery at 12:00 Noon. Flowers are welcomed, but the family suggests contributions to Julian and Maxs College Fund.
