Terry Sims went
to HSHP for her 9th and 10th grades. Her mother remarried and Terry
moved in with her great-grandmother in Wichita Falls, TX. Terry
continued on with her interest in the medical career. She worked as an
EKG Technician at Bethania Regional Health Care Centre while attending college
at Midwestern State University in Wichita
Falls, TX.
Terry's
Beginnings
Terry was born
in Wichita Falls, TX. When she was 13 months old, her father, a minor
race car driver, had an argument with his wife Marsha, and he stormed out the
house. While speeding, he did not stop for the police, and ended up
crashing into a bridge embankment in July, 1965, while driving over 100 mph.
Marsha, now a
widow at 17, sent Terry to her great-grandmother, and Vickie (Terry's newborn
sister) was sent to her grandmother's. Marsha moved from Wichita Falls,
and came back 2 years later with a new hairdresser husband, and their son,
Tony (Anthony Estrada). Marsha reclaimed her 2 daughters, saying she was
ready to settle down. The new marriage didn't last.
Marsha then
married a salesman who sold medical equipment. They moved to Ft. Worth,
and she gave birth to Catie (Catherine). She divorced again, remarried,
and in 1977 moved to Dallas. Around this time, Terry had started going
to HSHP for her 9th and 10th grades. Then she left in 1980 after her
mother divorced. She had planned to marry a man who wanted them to move
to Springfield, CO. Terry and her siblings ended up moving back to her
great-grandparents in Wichita Falls. Terry took on the role of parenting
for her siblings.
Terry had
decided she would one day become a doctor. In high school, she was a
straight A student, and also was an acolyte at St. Stephens Episcopal
Church. She had plans to work her way through college.
Leza Boone
(Terry's co-worker and fellow Midwestern student) described Terry as the most
selfless and energetic person she had ever met, always giving and doing for
others.
Near the last
year of her life, she got her first car, and was taking karate lessons.
She brought home her first trophy from a contest in Lawton, OK.
